Shravanabelagola
A short 148 kms drive from Bangalore and 51 kms South-east of Hassan, Shravanabelagola is one of the most important Jain pilgrim centers. It is also one of the oldest where a 17 m high naked of Lord Bahubali(gomteshwara) - the world's tallest monolithic statue, is placed. It is situated on the picturesque Vindhyagiri Hill overlooking the town. Every 12 years, Jain pilgrims gather here to participate in the colorful Maha Mastakabhisheka of the Lord, the splendid head-anointing ceremony. From especially erected scaffolding, priests pour hundreds of pots containing curds, milk, honey, vermilion, coconut water, turmeric paste and even gold and precious jewels over the 1000 years old statue’s head. Karnataka has some important Jain pilgrim centers. Some of the important among them are: Karkala and Venur with huge Gomateswara statues; Mudabidri with the thousand Pillars Basadi; Humcha with an ancient Jain Mutt; and Narasimharajapura and Belgaum with Jain basadis.

Halebid
27 kilometers northwest of Hassan and 17 kilometers to the east of Belur, Halebid was the capital of the Hoysalas till it was destroyed in the early 14th century after attacks by the Delhi Sultanate The Hoysaleshwara temple dates back to the 12th century and remained incomplete even after 87 years of continuous construction. Well surrounded by beautiful garden every inch of the outer wall and much of the interior is covered with many varieties of Hindu deities, sages, stylized animals and birds, and friezes depicting the life of Hoysala rulers. Yet no two facets of the temple are the same giving it a distinguish place among monuments of its kind.
A small museum housing a collection of sculptures can also be seen adjacent to the temple. The museum remains open everyday except on Fridays from 10am to 5pm .
