Somnathpur
Somnathpur is a small village on the banks of the Kaveri, 140 kms southwest of Bangalore. Here in this everlasting rural stillness, like a milestone to eternity, stood one of the last and the grandest of Hoysala monuments - the KesavaTemplebuilt 740 years ago Built in 1268 it still is astonishingly beautiful and unspoilt building. Unlike the other Hosala temples it is complete and is extremely interesting. It is a star shaped temple the walls of which are covered with superb sculptures. It is also a wonderful fact that no two friezes are alike in the temple.
The Templeremains open daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm.
